Prepare for a rewarding career in teaching with our PGCE Primary programme. This course is part of our Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to become an effective and inspiring primary school teacher. Upon completion, you will gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), enabling you to teach in schools across the UK.
The programme covers teaching across all primary age groups, ensuring a broad understanding of the primary curriculum. You will engage in both university-based learning and practical school placements, where you will develop the ability to plan, teach, and assess effectively across a range of subjects. Our experienced tutors and classroom practitioners will support you in developing your teaching practice through interactive lectures, workshops, and hands-on experiences.
A key focus of the course is on fostering your ability to reflect on your teaching and continually improve your practice. You will explore a variety of teaching methods, including innovative and creative approaches to engage young learners. The programme also places a strong emphasis on understanding the diverse needs of children, helping you to support all students in reaching their full potential.
During your school placements, you will have the opportunity to experience teaching in different settings, including urban and rural schools, as well as Welsh-medium schools if desired. These placements are a vital part of your training, allowing you to apply your learning in real classroom situations and develop confidence in your teaching abilities. Throughout your placements, you will receive guidance and support from experienced mentors who will help you grow as a teacher.

The PGCE is a comprehensive, full-time academic and professional programme designed to prepare you for a successful teaching career. The programme spans 36 weeks, with approximately 12 weeks of university-based provision and at least 24 weeks based in schools.
